schema.abstractCattle breeding, rearing and fattening cattle for slaughter plays an important role in the national economy, impacting the Brazilian gross domestic product in 2020 with 10% of its value. According to data released by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries, this percentage corresponds to R$ 747.05 billion in a total of R$ 74.00 trillion. An activity of this relevance remains productive and competitive in the national and international market, applying refined technical resources throughout the production process. The need to control the variables of cattle production is emphasized, such as the choice of the ideal pasture that is most appropriate to the soil and climate conditions; the herd with the best genetics and suitability to the work environment; compliance with the regulations of the sanitary and vaccination protocol; a corral that offers more productivity and less stress to the animals; and the concern with the supply in volume and quality of the water offered for the thirst of the animals. Everything is related to the production cycle of breeding, rearing, or fattening, impacting in the end on production and sale costs. However, water is the most neglected element within this process, and there is no regulation regarding its supply for the thirst of the animals. Water with a higher degree of potability would bring an advantage in weight gain to those animals that consumed it? The objective of this study is to compare the weight gain of animals confined for three months in two different paddocks, where the only variable will be the quality of the water offered. The quality of the water offered for the thirst of the animals and its analysis, was based on the following parameters: dissolved oxygen, thermotolerant coliforms, total coliforms, Escherichia coli, hydrogen potential (pH), biochemical oxygen demand, water temperature, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, turbidity, total residue, apparent color, total solids, total suspended solids, total dissolved solids (TDS), chlorides, total hardness, manganese, total iron, nitrate, nitrite, and residual chlorine. To carry out the project, two paddocks with similar areas were created, one with cistern water available in a drinking fountain and chlorinated, in the other with vereda water offered in a dam at ground level without any type of treatment, both formed with the same pasture, where 16 animals of 30 months of age on average were placed in each of the paddocks, with similar weights, and a feed supplementation through feed. After the initial weighing of the animals on December 14, 2022, the work was extended until March 15, 2023, with a monthly and individual weighing, to monitor the evolution of weight gain. At the end of the process, the data were spread sheeted and a weight gain of 26.32% more on average was found of the animals that received water from a cistern, offered in a drinking fountain.por
